Lexington Elementary School is one of only twelve authorized International Baccalaureate Primary schools in the State of California.
We have an unwavering investment in this program. Over the past five years, we are extremely fortunate and grateful for the
Los Gatos Union School District’s overall encouragement and financial support.
IB makes a difference at our school and it makes a difference in our district! Much of what we want to
accomplish in the LGUSD’s Strategic Plan is addressed with IB (inquiry based learning, whole child, critical thinking
skills, differentiation, communication skills, and global citizenship, to name a few.). Lexington has always had strong API
scores. Yet, it is important to note that the school’s API scores have increased from 886 (before the IB program implementation)
to 944 for the past two years. Because IB is highly regarded internationally, the entire LGUSD benefits with an IB school
under its umbrella. Being part of a greater IB community, Lexington enhances the global connection of our LGUSD.
An integral part of the IB program and curriculm is the Spanish instruction. In a recent district-wide parent survey, our foreign language program received a larger response
than almost any other item on the list.
50% of the Spanish program is funded by the LGUSD: $18,500. The other half of
the program is financed by the Lexington Home and School Club: $18,500. Since our Home and School Club budget is not as large
as the other elementary school's home and school club in the LGUSD, this cost reduces our entire non-profit budget by
half.
If future budget cuts to our Spanish
instruction is imminent, it would have a direct negative impact on the children’s education. We would like the district to continue their support of our curriculum and provide a long-term commitment
to the IB program including Spanish instruction, because the LGUSD also benefits from Lexington’s IB Status.
